Matsubaya Teahouse
A tiny meditation teahouse for appreciating bonsai.
A one-tatami tea room with seating inside the Bonsai Cafe.
This tea room was created from the desire for a space where one can enjoy a cup of matcha tea while admiring one's favorite bonsai. A one-tatami mat tea ceremony seat, a waiting area with a bench, a tokonoma alcove, and a water shelf are all placed in one space, and the entrance is a sliding door that is designed to resemble a nijiriguchi (traditional Japanese sash). The tea room is also soundproofed, as the owner wanted to block out outside noise as much as possible in order to meditate.
